Today was our first day of racing at the IBCPC Dragon Boat Festival and a good time was had by all!
For our first race both of our teams Rowbust and Rowbust Dragon Spirit were in the same heat for our first race and Laura couldn't drum for both teams. So, our friend Cheryl, from the Toronto BCS team, filled in as the drummer for Dragon Spirit and we were good to go! Thanks Cheryl, you did an awesome job for us today!
Both teams had some first race jitters but we got them out in time for our second races that were back to back.
Rowbust placed 2nd and Rowbust Dragon Spirit placed fourth in the second heats. This placed us in the A and C divisions for racing on Sunday.
Even though this is a fun participatory festival and no medals are being awarded our competitive spirits do come out!
After racing we all headed back to the hotel to get cleaned up for the parade! The buses dropped us off in a field just outside the street where the parade was to take place and we stood around for two hours waiting to get the party started. We were teams 101 and 102 so it took a long time before it was our turn. There were lots of people on the parade route cheering us on which was pretty cool. We eagerly awaited the food and drink that we were told would be available at the other end. Unfortunately, as one of the last teams in the parade there were no restaurants available and the food vendors had huge line ups by the time we got through. We went back to our hotel early and went out for a nice team dinner on our own. As usual, Rowbust makes the best of every situation!
Gail, you made your rounds today!...Well, a blown up picture of you! You were EVERYWHERE! You had your photo taken with Fire Fighters (we know what you like!), you photo bombed other teams and of course you were in our boat on our drum seat! <3
All in all it was a good day.....and very PINK!
